Hormones are chemical messengers that are released by cells and are carried to other parts of the body where they help to control and regulate many functions. This contrast the other signalling system in our bodies which is the nervous system that uses little electrical impulses to carry messages.
Hormones control our fertility, our blood sugar levels, how fast we burn up fuels, how we develop and grow for example.
Hormones are chemical messengers that travel in the bloodstream to cells, tissues or organs and affect many different things in the body (eg. growth and development, metabolism, sexual function, reproduction and mood). Hormones can also be very powerful little things as small amounts can have huge affects on the body.
