I got my qualifications to get me into university, studied hard to get my degree, worked every summer in a different lab to gain practical experience and see how the labs varied, applied for jobs when I graduated.

Did A level subjects which made me eligible to study Biology at University (biology, chemistry and maths). I got the grades I needed to be accepted. Got some lab experience doing my honours project in the final year of my degree which confirmed I wanted to do a PhD. Also got further lab experience over the summer break. Applied for PhDs. Got the minimum degree classification I needed to do a PhD (2:1). Interviewed for a PhD and got it. After I got my PhD I applied for jobs in scientific research in academia (in university).
