• Question: do you have to have good grades to become a scientist?

      Yes to some extent. It depends on the route you take but a degree in a science subject is generally a must. I needed good A level grades to get to the university I wanted. I then needed a good degree to be eligible for a PhD (2:1).

      I agree with Amy. Yes, you generally do need good grades. However, even if the best grades aren’t achieved there are other routes. If the grades aren’t high enough to get into university straight from school, there are some courses that can be completed in college which can give access to university courses.

      To study beyond honours degree level, most universities want a good degree class (a first class or upper second class honours degree).
